COLOMBO (News 1st); The term of office for the National Police Commission officially ends today.
However, the Ministry of Public Security has clarified that the current officers will remain in their positions and continue their duties until a new set of members is appointed.
The outgoing commission was established in 2023, following the guidelines of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution.
It has been led by its Chairman, retired High Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake.
The Ministry further noted that the process to appoint new members will begin once the Constitutional Council meets under the leadership of the Speaker of Parliament.
