Department of Motor Traffic Reports Surge In Vehicle Imports

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Motor Traffic reports that over 215,000 vehicles were imported into the country during the first four months of this year.

According to the department, motorcycles made up the largest portion of these imports, totaling more than 144, 000 thousand units.

Official data also shows that over 45,000 cars were brought into the country during the same period.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka noted that vehicle imports during the first quarter of 2026 alone were valued at over 195.95 billion rupees.
