COLOMBO (News 1st);Deputy Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs, Gamagedara Dissanayake, stated that a special set of guidelines has been issued for this year's Vesak festival.
The Deputy Minister explained that these guidelines were introduced with the aim of preventing the inclusion of inappropriate decorations and activities during the Vesak celebrations.
He stated that during the recent New Year season, there was considerable discussion on social media about activities that went against traditional customs .He added that a clear set of guidelines has now been introduced to prevent such a recurrence during the sacred Vesak season.
He also said that all District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries, and other relevant officials, including members of the Venerable Maha Sangha, are expected to follow these guidelines. The intention, he noted, is to prevent any controversial activities and to ensure Vesak is celebrated in its true spiritual spirit.
He further said that these guidelines have already been shared with District Secretaries and relevant authorities to ensure a meaningful and respectful Vesak celebration.
This year, Vesak Poya falls on the 30th of May
The Vesak Week is scheduled to take place from the 27th of May to June 2nd.
