Five Remanded Over Assault On Children At Welimada Probation Centre

COLOMBO (News 1st); Five individuals have been arrested and remanded in custody for allegedly assaulting a group of children at a probation centre in the Welimada area.

They were remanded after being produced before the Welimada Magistrate’s Court.

Investigations into the incident began following a complaint received via the 119 emergency hotline.

Police said the children at the probation centre were assaulted with rods and sticks by employees of the facility.

The victims are reported to be between 12 and 18 years old.
