COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Health and Media has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with all nine Provincial Councils to release a total sum of Rs. 3.6 Billion aimed at strengthening the country's primary healthcare system.
The funds are being allocated under the Primary Health Care System Strengthening Project.
Under this agreement, each of the following Provincial Councils - Central, Eastern, North Central, North Western, Northern, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, and Western Provinces will receive Rs. 400 million per year.
Under this initiative the physical infrastructure and resources of nearly 1,700 Primary Health Care Units and Medical Officer of Health (MOH) offices island-wide will be improved.
The initiative will foster mutual cooperation between the Ministry and Provincial Councils to ensure a more systematic, efficient, and high-quality primary healthcare service for the general public.
