Police Sergeant Dies Following Avurudu Festival Clash in Walasmulla

COLOMBO (News 1st): A police sergeant has died following a violent clash that broke out during an Avurudu festival in Bowala, Walasmulla.

Police say the incident occurred near the officer’s residence on the 16th of April, when his brother was reportedly involved in an altercation with a group during an Avrudu festival.

The sergeant, who sustained serious stab injuries in the altercation, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to hospital. 

He was attached to the Maligawatta Police Station.

Meanwhile, two suspects arrested in connection with the incident have been remanded until the 30th of April after being produced before the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court.
