COLOMBO (News 1st); A man who allegedly attempted to enroll students into a Colombo school by impersonating the husband of the Prime Minister’s Personal Secretary has been arrested, police said.
The arrest followed an investigation launched after a complaint made by the Prime Minister’s Office to the Senior Superintendent of Police for Colombo South.
According to police, the suspect had met the principal of a prominent Colombo school and claimed he could facilitate student admissions in exchange for two housing units belonging to the Urban Development Authority, located in Homagama. Police said the suspect had also completed the relevant application forms during the process.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had sent the school principal two fraudulently created Facebook accounts, falsely claiming that his spouse was serving as the Personal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
Police stated that five legal cases have already been filed against the suspect on charges of forgery. They further noted that the suspect had been previously convicted in two cases and had earlier served a five‑and‑a‑half‑year prison sentence.
The arrested individual is a 44‑year‑old resident of Borella, police confirmed.
