Special Weekend Transport Services Deployed for Post-New Year Return Commuters

COLOMBO (News 1st);Special transport services are in operation throughout this weekend to facilitate the return of people who traveled to their hometowns for the New Year. 

The National Transport Commission (NTC) stated that since a large influx of passengers is expected to return to Colombo over the weekend and on Monday, plans are in place to deploy additional bus services, particularly on the expressways.

Nilan Miranda, Director General of the NTC, speaking to News 1st, confirmed that these special services will be operational from areas such as Moneragala, Embilipitiya, Badulla, Bandarawela, and Nuwara Eliya.

Meanwhile, the Railway Department announced that several special train turns have also been scheduled for commuters returning to the city.

These special trains will be operational today and tomorrow, running from Anuradhapura, Kankesanthurai, Matara, and Beliatta towards Colombo.
