1,500 Extra Buses, Special Trains In Operation For Festive Travel

COLOMBO (News 1st);Special transport services remain in operation today to facilitate the public traveling to their hometowns for the New Year.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) stated that approximately 1,500 additional buses are being operated beyond the regular schedule. The SLTB further noted that a fleet of 50 buses has been kept on standby at depots around Colombo to be deployed as needed.

Meanwhile, Director General of the National Transport Commission, Nilan Miranda, mentioned that inter-provincial bus services are operating from Bastian Mawatha, Kadawatha, Makumbura, and Kaduwela for the festive season.

The special train service for those traveling for the New Year will continue until the 19th of April.

Accordingly, special trains are running between Colombo Fort – Anuradhapura, Anuradhapura – Kankesanthurai, Maradana – Matara, and Maradana – Beliatta.

The Railway Department stated that the Rajarata Rejini train, which usually runs from Beliatta to Maho, will be extended to Anuradhapura during the New Year period.

Additionally, the Maho office train, which typically runs from Colombo Fort to Maho, is scheduled to run to Anuradhapura today as well.

These special train services are operational for passengers traveling from Colombo to their hometowns as well as for those returning to Colombo.
