Asset Declaration Deadline Expires as Former President Fails to Comply

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has confirmed that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has yet to submit his sworn declaration of assets, liabilities, expenditures, and sources of income.

The deadline granted for the submission expired today.

In response to an inquiry made by News1st, Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Ranaga Dissanayake stated that future action will be taken in this regard.

The Commission had formally notified former President Rajapaksa by letter on the 23rd, instructing him to submit the sworn declaration within 14 days.

This directive was issued in connection with an investigation initiated into his assets for the year 2015, for which a sworn declaration has not yet been submitted.

The order was issued in accordance with Section 49(1)(e) of the Anti‑Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, the Commission confirmed.
