Recruitment of New Doctors Underway: Deputy Minister Says Strike Demands Cannot Be Implemented

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, says that the call for applications to recruit new doctors to the Ministry of Health ended at 12 noon today.

The Deputy Minister said that arrangements will be made to quickly select those who applied and provide appointments to the relevant positions.

He also commented on the GMOA strike, calling it unsuccessful. He said that what the striking parties are demanding cannot be implemented, as it is beyond the authority of political officials and that there is a formal process to recruit new medical officers.
