Price Hikes Expected Across Goods and Services Following Fuel Price Revision

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Various trade unions have commenced discussions regarding increases in the prices of goods and services in line with the recent fuel price revision.

The President of the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association, N.K. Jayawardena, says that a meeting will be held today to reach a final decision on the matter.

According N.K. Jayawardena, bakery owners have urged that prices of bakery products should be increased. 

Meanwhile, Harshana Rukshan, Chairman of the All Ceylon Restaurant Owners’ Association, has urged that prices of food should not be increased.

The Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijeratne, says that bus fares should be increased by 15% in line with the fuel price revision.

Chairman of the Container Transport Owners’ Association, Sanath Manjula, said that container transport charges were increased by 20% from midnight yesterday.

Prices were increased inorder to ensure the continuous operation of import and export procedures amid rising fuel prices.

The decision was taken along with the representatives of Associations from the Port of Colombo, and all executive commmittees have reached the decision to increase the container transport charges.
