The Colombo Magistrate's Court today ordered the Commission to investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption to record a statement from former Member of Parliament Duminda Silva, who is currently imprisoned under a death sentence.
The Magistrate issued this order after considering a request made by the Commission in connection with an ongoing investigation into a bribery incident.
Accordingly, the Magistrate granted permission for the Bribery Commission to record the relevant statement within the prison at 10:00 AM on the 23rd of March.
The Chief Magistrate added that Duminda Silva is entitled to legal assistance at the time his statement is being recorded.
The Commission to investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption is conducting this investigation against Duminda Silva for allegedly aiding and abetting the solicitation of a 5 million rupee bribe.
This bribe was reportedly intended to facilitate bail for a suspect known as "Dematagoda Ruwan," who is currently in remand custody over a case involving the illegal acquisition of assets.
