COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Building Research Organization says that air quality has deteriorated once again today across several parts of the island.
NBRO said that wind patterns combined with pollution levels from South Asian countries have contributed to the current conditions.
This morning, the highest air pollution was recorded in Chilaw, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 167, well above the safe level of below 50.
Other areas with elevated pollution levels include:
Battaramulla: AQI 160
Galle: AQI 154
Jaffna: AQI 102
Kegalle: AQI 116
Ratnapura: AQI 138
Ella: AQI 138
Akkaraipattu: AQI 131
The National Building Research Organization has advised sensitive individuals and those with health conditions to take necessary precautions due to the high pollution levels.
