CID Team Departs to Extradite Notorious Criminal "Podi Lassie" from India

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A special team to repatriate Janith Madusanka, alias "Podi Lassie" a suspected organized criminal who is currently held in Indian custody, has departed Sri Lanka. 

Police say that a team comprising officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) departed yesterday afternoon to bring the suspect back to the country.

The suspect was previously apprehended by Indian security forces for illegally entering the country.

Following the conclusion of legal proceedings in India, authorities have agreed to hand over the suspect to Sri Lankan authorities. 

Police say that "Podi Lassie" is allegedly linked to a series of serious organized crimes and high-profile offenses within Sri Lanka.

The police expect to bring the suspect back to the island shortly for ongoing investigations.
