COLOMBO (News 1st): A comprehensive security operation has been implemented for today’s India–Pakistan fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with police describing it as one of the most closely monitored matches of the tournament.

Sajeewa Medawatta, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Western Province, said special security arrangements have been introduced in addition to the overall tournament plan due to the high-profile nature of the encounter.

Security has been strengthened at the hotels where the teams are staying, along with their travel and training routes and the stadium itself.

Officials said approximately 5,000 personnel—including police officers, the Police Special Task Force, traffic units, and intelligence officers—have been deployed to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of the match.

Authorities also reminded spectators that all tickets were sold online and confirmed that none will be available at the stadium. The public has been advised not to travel to the venue without valid entry passes to avoid inconvenience.
