Gunman, Accomplices Arrested Over Attempted Killing of SJB Candidate in Kalutara

COLOMBO (News 1st); A gunman who allegedly attempted to kill a candidate from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) who contested the last local government election for the Kalutara Municipal Council, along with a woman who supported him and two other individuals, has been arrested.

The arrests were made based on information received by officers of the Police Special Task Force Organized Crimes Unit and the Kalutara Division Crimes Investigation Unit.

Police stated that the gunman was arrested in the Balangoda area.

According to police, the 24‑year‑old suspect, a resident of Kalutara Nagoda, is also wanted in connection with another murder and an attempted murder involving a shooting.

The two other suspects arrested, aged 23 and 24, both residents of the Kalutara area, were apprehended for allegedly aiding and supporting the gunman.

The female suspect is a 23‑year‑old woman from Bolossagama.

All suspects have been handed over to the Kalutara Division Crimes Investigation Unit, and further investigations are under way.

The shooting occurred on the 7th, when the suspect opened fire at a hotel in the Kalutara Nagoda area, which belonged to the SJB candidate.
