Former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake Directed to Magazine Prison

COLOMBO (News1st): The former Secretary to the President, Saman Ekanayake, has been directed to the Magazine Prison. 

The Department of Prisons stated that he is currently detained in a general ward of the ward.

Saman Ekanayake, named as the second suspect in a case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, was remanded until February 11. 

The complaint relates to allegations that state funds were misused during Ranil Wickremesinghe’s tenure as President, for a trip to London to attend the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe.

The Attorney General’s Department informed the court that investigations revealed former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s trip to London was not an official visit.

This was informed when the case was taken up yesterday at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
