Dengue Cases Spike in January; Colombo Records the Highest

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health says there has been a significant rise in dengue cases in January 2026, compared to the same period last year.

Acting Director of the unit, Kapila Kannangara said that a total of 4,970 dengue cases were recorded in January 2025. He added that however, 6,521 cases have already been reported during the same period this year. 

The highest number of dengue cases has been reported from the Colombo District, with 1,627 patients, followed by Gampaha District with 971 cases.
