COLOMBO (News 1st) : The Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament, Chaminda Kumara Kularatne, has been suspended with immediate effect.
The Parliamentary Staff Advisory Council, which convened yesterday, has suspended Chaminda Kumara Kularatne, the Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament, with immediate effect.
He is the second most senior official in Parliament.
The decision to suspend him was made after a preliminary investigation revealed that he had provided false information regarding his appointment.
Furthermore, the Parliamentary Staff Advisory Council has decided to conduct a formal disciplinary inquiry into the matter.
The official representatives of this Advisory Council include the Speaker, the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition, the Minister of Finance (or their representative), and the Secretary-General of Parliament.
Before being appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament in 2023, Chaminda Kularatne held several high-ranking positions, including Secretary to the Chief Government Whip, Additional Secretary to the President, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Additional Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition.
