COLOMBO (News1st): Health authorities say that an increase in the spread of viral diseases has been noted recently.

Dr. K.V.C. Janaka, a Consultant Physician at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, says that most of these viruses cause respiratory illnesses. He further noted that the spread of Influenza A and B, as well as other non-influenza viral infections, has been identified.

For patients with asthma or wheezing, the symptoms of these viral conditions may persist for about two weeks even after the initial illness has subsided.

Meanwhile, an increase in Chikungunya cases has been reported within the Colombo district.

Additionally, 2,170 Dengue patients were reported within the first nine days of this year.

Dr. Prashila Samaraweera, a Community Physician Specialist at the National Dengue Control Unit, said that 41 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions are currently in a high-risk state for Dengue.
