COLOMBO (News 1st); The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) announced that special teams are continuing inspections in areas affected by the recent cyclone to ensure safety and identify suitable locations for rebuilding.
GSMB Chairman Saman Jayasinghe stated that the teams will be engaged in observation and analysis for the next three weeks, focusing on both safe zones for new housing and high-risk areas that require caution.
“We will also conduct full assessments of damaged bridges, culverts, and other structures to determine whether reconstruction at those sites is feasible,” Jayasinghe explained.
The inspections are being carried out in collaboration with the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).
Once all evaluations are complete, a final report highlighting vulnerable areas will be released to guide future development and disaster mitigation efforts.
