COLOMBO (News1st): The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced that bus operations will commence on 40 rural routes starting today.
Prasanna Gunasena, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, says that this initiative is being implemented according to a budget proposal by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to improve the convenience of transportation for rural communities.
The Deputy Minister further noted that Rs. 2,000 million has been allocated for this purpose, in addition to the Rs. 3,300 million already set aside for the Sisu Seriya-the student service, Gami Seriya- the village service and Nisi Seriya - the night service transport programs.
