Sri Lanka Speeds Up Foreign Aid Distribution

COLOMBO (News 1st); The committee appointed by the President to manage foreign aid has assured that all assistance received will be delivered quickly, without misuse, and allocated to relevant projects for maximum impact.

This was confirmed by Deputy Minister of Defence, Retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara, who outlined the scale of humanitarian aid received and its distribution progress.

Jayasekara revealed that Sri Lanka has so far received humanitarian assistance from 22 countries and the World Food Programme, amounting to approximately 2,161.72 metric tons.

Of this, 1,800 metric tons have already been distributed to District Secretariats across two districts based on urgent needs.

Key highlights include:

Essential equipment: Out of 270 units received, 210 have been issued to one district.

Medicines: Over 26 metric tons handed over to the Ministry of Health.

Tents: 14,750 units received, with 13,550 distributed to 17 districts.

Housing materials: Out of 9,761 units, 8,515 allocated to 18 districts.

Clothing: 23 metric tons received, 15 metric tons distributed to 12 districts.

Other items: Out of 5 metric tons, 3.4 metric tons delivered to seven districts.

“These contributions have come from multiple countries in various form,” Jayasekara emphasized.
