COLOMBO (News 1st); Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to assist Sri Lanka in its recovery from the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
In a special letter addressed to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Modi announced the visit of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to Colombo as his Special Envoy to discuss relief and rehabilitation measures.
Highlighting India’s swift response under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and First Responder commitment, Modi noted that ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’ had already delivered emergency aid through Indian ships, aircraft, and helicopters.
Specialized teams were deployed to support search and rescue missions, provide medical assistance, and restore critical connectivity and communications.
“Operation Sagar Bandhu touched many lives in Sri Lanka and was widely perceived as an expression of our deep bonding,” Modi wrote, assuring that India will continue to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Sri Lanka in rebuilding lives and strengthening resilience.
Expressing confidence in Sri Lanka’s ability to overcome challenges, Modi concluded: “Sri Lanka will rise again, stronger than ever before. In this journey, as in its national development and progress, Sri Lanka will always find India by its side.”
