Two Sri Lankans Arrested with Gems Worth Rs.32 Million at BIA

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two Sri Lankan passengers have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake while attempting to illegally smuggle a stock of gems worth Rs. 32 million out of the country.

The two suspects were apprehended by Customs officers during a search operation at the Departure Terminal of the Bandaranayake International Airport.

According to Custom Officials, the suspects had attempted to smuggle the gemstones to China by concealing them inside their bodies and within their luggage.

The suspects, aged 38 and 39, are residents of Beruwala.

A total of 390 gemstones, including Blue Sapphires, Padparadscha, and Cat’s Eye, have been taken into Customs custody.
