COLOMBO (News 1st); China has assured its full support for Sri Lanka’s national recovery program following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, reaffirming its commitment to assist in rebuilding lives and infrastructure.
The pledge was made by Wang Dongming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, during a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.
A delegation of senior Chinese representatives also attended the discussion.
Speaking at the meeting, Wang Dongming expressed deep sympathy for the people of Sri Lanka affected by the disaster and conveyed China’s confidence in Sri Lanka’s ability to recover swiftly under President Dissanayake’s leadership:
He further noted that both the Chinese government and its people share Sri Lanka’s grief over the severe calamity.
President Dissanayake, in response, expressed gratitude for China’s material and financial assistance provided to support disaster-affected communities.
He also requested technical assistance from China to restore the damaged railway network, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure recovery for national stability.
