President Holds Discussion on Urgent Measures to Restore Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Sectors

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Finance at the Presidential Secretariat to review the damage caused to the agriculture, livestock and irrigation sectors and to discuss the urgent measures that must be taken in response.

The discussion focused on the available data regarding the losses incurred in paddy, maize, grain and vegetable cultivation due to the adverse weather conditions affecting the country, as well as the immediate commencement of compensation payments for affected farmers.

Attention was also drawn to the impact on the livestock and irrigation sectors. 

The President emphasized the need to assess the damage to the irrigation systems and to restore them to full functionality without delay, instructing the preparation of the necessary plans for this purpose.
