Three Major Rivers Remain at Minor Flood Level

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Irrigation announced that the Nilwala, Kalu, and Gin Rivers remain at a minor flood level.

The Kalu River is at a minor flood level near the Millakanda area.

The Nilwala River is at a minor flood level near Panadugama (පානඳුගමින්), and the Gin River near Baddegama.

The statement issued by the Department of Irrigation warned that water levels could rise if rains persist further. 

The Department of Meteorology said that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm may occur today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, Northern, and Southern Provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Rest of the areas may experience rainfall of about 75 mm.

Heavy rains followed by lightening could occur. 

The Department of Meteorology advised the public to take necessary steps to minimize risks from possible hazards from lightening and thundershowers.
