Constable, Woman Arrested for Drug Trafficking

Drug Peddling Constable & Trafficker’s Wife Arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st); A police constable and a woman were arrested in Mirihana, Nugegoda for allegedly distributing narcotics in the Panadura area. 

The arrests were made by the Kalutara Division Crimes Unit, following an extensive investigation.

The constable, attached to the Aguruwatota Police, is a 31-year-old resident of Walasmulla. 

Investigators allege he acted as a middleman, distributing drugs supplied by Panadura Kamal, a notorious trafficker currently serving time at Agunukolapelessa Prison.

Police confirmed the link through mobile phone analysis, which revealed the constable’s involvement in the network. 

Alongside him, a 37-year-old woman from Kaludewala, Panadura, identified as Kamal’s wife and mother of one, was also taken into custody.

The breakthrough came after questioning a mother and son arrested in Modaravila, Panadura, which led authorities to the constable and the woman. 

A small van allegedly used for drug distribution and Rs. 717,790 in cash were seized during the operation.
