COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have launched an investigation after discovering a parcel suspected to contain heroin on Bentota Beach this morning.
The operation was carried out following a tip-off, and authorities are now calculating the quantity of narcotics under the supervision of the Police Narcotics Bureau.
Officials believe the parcel may be linked to large-scale smuggling operations using multi-day fishing vessels.
In response, the government has announced tighter security measures at fishing harbors to curb drug trafficking.
Deputy Fisheries Minister Ratna Gamage confirmed that Police Special Task Force units and checkpoints will soon be deployed at key fishing ports to strengthen surveillance.
