COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology says that Cyclone Montha is expected to further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm today.
Due to this condition, fishermen and naval personnel have been advised to refrain from engaging in activities in both shallow and deep sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee until further notice.
Director of the Forecasting Division, Meryl Mendis, stated that Cyclone Montha is likely to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast by this evening.
He added that as a result, rainy conditions over Sri Lanka are expected to gradually decrease.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has urged the public to remain alert to early signs of landslides.
A Level 2 landslide warning has been issued for the districts of Galle, Kandy, Kegalle, and Ratnapura, urging residents to remain vigilant.
