New Price Ceiling for Imported Rice

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued an extraordinary gazette notification imposing Maximum Retail Prices (MRPs) on several imported rice varieties, in a move aimed at curbing excessive pricing and protecting consumers.

According to the gazette, the newly regulated MRPs per kilogram are as follows:

Kekulu Rice (Imported): Rs. 210
Nadu Rice (Imported): Rs. 220
Samba Rice (Imported): Rs. 230
Ponni Samba (Imported): Rs. 240
Keeri Ponni Rice (Imported): Rs. 255

The Authority emphasized that all importers, suppliers, distributors, and retailers are legally bound to sell these rice varieties at the stipulated prices.
