Three Excise Officers Arrested For Demanding Rs. 2 Million Bribe

COLOMBO (News 1st): Police have arrested Three excise officers accused of attempting to accept a bribe to facilitate the release of a suspect.

The arrests were made during an operation by the Northern Provincial Crime Division in the Chankanai area of Jaffna.

According to police, the officers had demanded Rs. 2 million from the family of a youth arrested with drugs, in exchange for securing his release.

They were taken into custody following a complaint lodged by the family.

The arrested officers are expected to be produced before the Mallakkam Court.
