Postal Workers on Strike Face Job Loss

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Posts has announced that postal workers who fail to report to duty during the ongoing strike will be considered as having voluntarily abandoned their service.

Deputy Postmaster General Amisha de Silva stated that all employees participating in the strike were formally notified of this decision in writing today (21).

Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara added that the Treasury has indicated that funds will not be released to pay salaries of workers who do not report to duty during the strike period.

The strike, now in its fourth consecutive day, was launched by postal workers over 19 key demands, including overtime allowances and issues related to biometric attendance systems.
