EC Calls Out Parties Over Missing Member Lists

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has issued a formal notice urging political party secretaries and independent group leaders to promptly submit the names of elected members from recent local government elections in several districts.

In a statement, the Commission emphasized that under the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance, it is the responsibility of recognized political parties and independent groups to officially nominate their elected representatives without delay.

Despite the conclusion of the elections, the Commission noted that it is yet to receive the official name lists of elected members for several local government bodies, which are required for administrative and procedural purposes.

The Commission has called for immediate action, requesting all relevant parties to notify the respective returning officers as soon as possible.
