COLOMBO (News 1st); The Postal Trade Union Front announced today that it will hand over a letter to the President outlining their grievances.
Joint-convener Chinthaka Bandara said the ongoing strike launched over 19 demands including overtime allowances and the implementation of fingerprint attendance system will continue without interruption.
The public faced severe inconvenience in obtaining services at post offices due to the strike, for the second consecutive day.
Twenty-three trade unions, including the United National Postal Employees’ Union, the Sri Lanka Freedom Postal and Telecommunication General Employees’ Union, the Sri Lanka Freedom Postal Services Union, and the Sri Lanka Postal Employees’ Front, have joined the strike.
Accordingly, more than 18,000 employees are taking part in the protest, resulting in a backlog of over 1.5 million letters and documents at post offices.
Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara urged the unions to call off the strike and return to the discussion table.
