COLOMBO(News 1st): The Ministry of Public Security reported that legal action was taken against 2,992 individuals for traffic offenses, including reckless driving, during an island-wide operation conducted yesterday.
Among those arrested, 58 were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
Additionally, 907 individuals were arrested on drug-related charges, and 17 persons with direct links to crimes were also taken into custody.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 343 individuals with outstanding warrants.
Security forces seized two illegal firearms during the crackdown.
In a separate search at Boossa Prison, 11 milligrams of heroin were confiscated.
Police also seized 1 kilogram and 557 grams of heroin and 726 grams of ICE during the operation.
This large-scale effort was conducted with the joint participation of the police and tri-forces, as part of ongoing initiatives to eradicate drugs and suppress organized crime across the country.
