COLOMBO(News 1st): The Ministry of Health said that trade unions have no authority to intervene in the ongoing recruitment process of post-intern medical officers.
Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Hansaka Wijayamuni, announced that applications are currently being accepted online for the recruitment of 1,402 medical officers to the primary level of the medical service, also referred to as post-intern appointments.
However, Dr. Wijayamuni emphasised that the Government Medical Officers’ Association’s (GMOA) objection to the recruitment document is unfounded.
Meanwhile, the GMOA's media spokesperson, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, claimed that the Ministry has prepared the post-intern appointment list in violation of legal procedures.
He warned that if no corrective measures are taken, the union will proceed with the planned strike action starting Monday at 8 a.m.
