Dhamma School Concerns Discussed with PM

Colombo(News 1st); Representatives from the All Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandala met with Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya. 

Issues and challenges concerning the Dhamma school system, were taken into discussion at the meeting.

The discussion was attended by the Chairman of the All Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandala, Most Venerable Professor Thumbulle Seelakkhanda Thero, along with other members of the Buddhist clergy.

The meeting was held at Temple Trees.

Several key issues were brought to the table, including:

Halting support classes on Sundays and Poya days

Avoiding school exams and sports competitions on days when Dhamma school exams and competitions are held

Addressing the shortage of Dhamma school teachers

Providing the necessary teaching aids and learning materials for Dhamma schools

Awarding special consideration or bonus marks to students with Dharmacharya qualifications when applying for university

Further strengthening and formalizing Dhamma school education to ensure its quality and value
