Rohitha's Daughter Released on Bail Over Jeep Scandal

COLOMBO (News 1st); Roshel Abeygunawardena, daughter of former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena, was released on bail today (31) following her appearance before the Matugama Chief Magistrate, A.I. Hettiwatta.

She was granted bail on two sureties of Rs. 2 million each.

The Magistrate also issued a stern warning, instructing the suspect not to interfere with witnesses involved in the case.

Roshel surrendered to the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit yesterday (30) morning through her legal counsel. She is the primary suspect in a case involving the alleged illegal import and assembly of a Jeep.

The vehicle in question was reportedly purchased and retained by the son of MP Jagath Withana, who has also been released on bail in connection with the same case.

Meanwhile, Roshel’s husband remains in remand custody over the incident.

Investigations into the illegal vehicle import and associated activities are ongoing.
