COLOMBO (News 1st); Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of serious crimes allegedly linked to former Eastern Provincial Councillor K. Pushpa Kumara, also known as Iniyabharathi.

The arrests were made by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in separate operations conducted in Batticaloa and Welikanda.

Police confirmed that the suspects are being investigated for their alleged involvement in murder, abduction, and robbery incidents believed to be connected to Iniyabharathi.

Iniyabharathi himself was arrested recently and is currently being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), pending further interrogation.

He is known to be a close associate of former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, widely known as Pillayan, who is also under CID custody.

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala previously stated in Parliament that Pillayan is facing allegations related to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
