Rs. 70 Mn Fraud: Sabaragamuwa PC Accountant Arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st); An accountant attached to the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has been arrested in connection with a massive financial fraud amounting to Rs.70 million. 

The arrest follows an ongoing investigation into irregularities linked to 32 development projects carried out under the Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha during the years 2016 and 2017.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a comprehensive probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds, particularly focusing on road construction and sports ground development projects.

Police sources confirmed that 13 suspects have so far been taken into custody in connection with the case.
