Ex-Navy Chief Remanded Over 2010 Abduction and Murder Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne has been remanded until August 13 following his appearance before Polgahawela Magistrate Prasanna Fernando earlier today (30).

Ulugetenne was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on July 28 in connection with an investigation into the abduction and murder of a civilian in the Pothuhera area. 

The incident is believed to have occurred in 2010, during which time Ulugetenne served as the Head of Naval Intelligence.

Police investigations have revealed that the victim was allegedly held at an unauthorized detention facility operated under Ulugetenne’s command. 

The inquiry was initiated based on a letter reportedly sent from the detention center several days after the abduction.

Authorities have previously arrested multiple suspects in connection with the case, and further investigations are ongoing.
