COLOMBO (News 1st); A wave of shock and sorrow has swept through the Central Province following the discovery of the lifeless bodies of Yatinuwara Pradeshiya Sabha Opposition Leader Champika Nilanta, his wife, and their 17-year-old daughter inside their home in Yahalatenna, Peradeniya.
The tragic discovery was made after police received a tip-off, confirmed by Police Spokesperson ASP F. U. Wootler, who stated that the bodies were found under distressing circumstances.
Champika Nilanta, aged 52, was a well-known figure in local politics. His wife, aged 44, and their teenage daughter were also found deceased at the scene.
Initial investigations suggest that Champika may have taken his own life, while the cause of death of the other two family members remains undetermined.
Police have launched a full-scale investigation, led by the Peradeniya Police, to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
