COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne has been remanded until Wednesday following his arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Ulugetenne was presented before the Polgahawela Magistrate’s Court, which ordered his remand and directed that he be produced for an identification parade in connection with a 2010 abduction and murder case.

The suspect was later transferred to the Kegalle Remand Prison under judicial custody.

According to police sources, the arrest is linked to the abduction and alleged killing of a man from the Pothuhera area, during a time when Ulugetenne served as the head of naval intelligence. Investigators believe the victim was held at an unauthorized detention facility reportedly operated under Ulugetenne’s command.

The case was reopened after a letter sent from the detention center surfaced, prompting renewed investigations. Several other suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident.
