Police Arrest Kelaniya Man Over Shooting at Politician’s Residence

COLOMBO (News 1st); A suspect was arrested in connection with the gunfire attack on the residence of Attorney-at-Law Tharaka Nanayakkara, a member of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha representing the National People's Power (NPP).

Police confirmed that the suspect, a 34-year-old resident of Kelaniya, was apprehended during a special operation conducted in the area.

The shooting occurred on July 16, targeting Nanayakkara’s home located in Malimbada, Weligama. Reports indicate that nine bullets fired from a pistol struck the gate of the residence.

Notably, the attack took place despite police protection being assigned to the premises at the time.
