COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s ongoing negotiations with the United States over tariffs have reached a promising stage, with the potential for further reductions beyond the current 30% rate.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Professor Anil Jayantha Fernando, confirmed that discussions are progressing positively, with another virtual meeting scheduled for Wednesday (23) to finalize key aspects of a potential bilateral agreement.
The talks follow a significant move by US President Donald Trump, who recently reduced the reciprocal tariff on Sri Lankan exports from 44% to 30%, effective August 1.
