DIG Grilled Over Weligama Shooting in IGP Probe

COLOMBO (News 1st); Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jagath Chandrakumara appeared before the parliamentary-appointed three-member committee investigating the proposed removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon. 

The committee convened at the parliamentary complex for its 11th session.

DIG Chandrakumara, who previously oversaw the Colombo Range, was questioned regarding a controversial shooting incident in Weligama.

The inquiry focused on whether a police team dispatched from Colombo had prior authorization and whether firearms were involved.
