COLOMBO (News 1st); In connection with an ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga ordered the release on bail of two daughters of former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and his son-in-law.

The suspects—Chamithri Jayanika Rambukwella, Amali Nayanika Rambukwella, and her husband Isuru Pulasthi Bandara—were presented before the court this afternoon (19) following their arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Appearing on behalf of the Commission, officials informed the court that the investigation was initiated based on intelligence provided by the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The unit had flagged suspicious banking activity involving members of Rambukwella’s family.

According to the prosecution, 16 fixed deposit accounts and five life insurance policies belonging to the suspects have been frozen under a High Court order. The total value of these assets exceeds Rs. 97 million.

The case is scheduled to be recalled on October 19.
